A Series of Unfortunate Events

A Series of Unfortunate Events

Hola mis amigos!

Soooo…. a hot topic at my Barn Event was where I was living, what I was doing, and what the hell happened. I’m going to explain this as best as I can, to the extent that I am comfortable with.

I am currently living in McKinney, Texas. I moved down here at the beginning of July 2020. This is where people started with a bunch of questions. Back in March, I accepted a teaching job in Waco, Texas. This would be part of the “A Series of Unfortunate Events”. There were definitely more unfortunate events before this, but this is where I am going to start. So, I accepted this teaching position. It seemed like the right thing to do. I liked teaching, but knew that I did not love it and something was always missing, but the people closest to me at the time always said I should stick with because “it’s a good job” and “you get your summers off.”

Lesson 1: Do not do anything in your life just because it’s comfortable. You don’t grow there.

Took the job. I was really excited, I got along with all the teachers I was going to work with, it was a really good school, etc. I was going to go on a cruise in May and then move down right after. I was pretty excited! Covid hits. Cruise cancelled. More unfortunate events happened in the mean time. This is something I don’t want to get into detail about – a lot of pain lives there, but I will share something I wrote from this summer.

“The pain and hurt is so real. I can feel the heavy weight of trying to face it head on. There are so many things my heart feels that my head has to remind it that it’s not right. It’s a constant battle that has no escape and no time for rest. It’s exhausting. Its intensity won’t let up.”

Yikes. Good news, I am not still at that point, but you can probably see why I don’t want to get into that one.

So here I am in a teaching contract and about to move down to Waco, Texas for only that reason. One week before I was supposed to move into my apartment, I got a call that changed my life. This is another part of “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” but for the most part it ends there. Within the next 24 hours, I quit my job and got out of my apartment lease. My cousin was about to move into an apartment in McKinney, so I called her and asked if she wanted a roomie. Not sure why I did this, or how this all happened within a day, so I’m thinking the big man upstairs decided to take over.

As of right now, I am working at a golf course, doing social media for a company, Rock Creek Barn, and about to get another job.

Lesson 2: Sometimes you gotta do stuff you don’t want to do, to get you to where you want to be.

I love this life.
